Each year, the Indonesia Circular Economy Forum (ICEF) as a national platform for Circular Economy brings together stakeholders to identify challenges and produce solutions as well as recommendations to implement Circular Economy approaches and transition to a more circular lifestyle in Indonesia.

In November 2019, it was time for the 3rd ICEF, which took place under the theme “Towards a Sustainable Future through Circular Business Practices.”

Vincent Piket, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam said:

“The transition from a Linear to a Circular Economy is an important and necessary step forward towards more sustainable development pathways. The Circular Economy has already become a major element in the EUs political, environmental, and economic agenda. In a world with limited natural resources, the transition to a Circular Economy will have to occur in Indonesia too, eventually. We can help to enhance and facilitate this transition, together.”

‘Rethinking Plastics’ joined the exchanges to provide for example expertise on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) implementation in Germany. Helmut Schmitz, Director of Public Affairs of Der Grüne Punkt – Duales System Deutschland GMbH took part in a session on circular economy in the packaging sector, which was co-hosted by PRAISE, the Packaging and Recycling Alliance for Indonesia Sustainable Environment. In addition, the EU co-hosted a breakout session on Making Fashion Circular.
